In short

Turn a logo or picture into an EXP file for Bernina and Melco machines. HoopFile handles jumps, trims and color stops in the Melco way and gives you a color sheet, because EXP keeps no thread colors.

About EXP files

Used by: Bernina, Melco, Bernette.

EXP stores stitches and color stops only; colors are set on the machine. A color sheet is included.

Bernina machines read .exp directly from a USB stick.
Long moves are split into legal jumps and color changes are written as stops, the way Melco-style machines read them.
For Bernina software users: open the .exp in ART or Bernina Embroidery Software to change colors.

Machines that read EXP

Bernina 535, 590, 700, 790 PRO
Melco Amaya, EMT16X
Bernette Chicago 7, b79

Every purchase also includes the other five formats, so a file you share with a friend on another brand works too.

How to make a EXP file from a picture

Upload your image
PNG, JPG or WebP. Logos, text and flat artwork stitch best. Nothing is uploaded: digitizing runs in your browser.
Set size, colors and density
Pick your hoop (4×4, 5×7, 6×10…), the number of thread colors and the fill direction. The stitch preview updates as you go.
Check the sew-out, then download
Play the sew-out, check stitch count and jumps, then download PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3 or XXX. First design free.
