HoopFile turns a JPG or PNG into a Tajima DST file for commercial multi-needle machines. Trims are written the DST way, long moves are split into legal jumps, and each design comes with a color sheet, because DST itself does not store colors.
About DST files
Used by: Tajima, Ricoma, SWF, Happy, Barudan, Brother PR, most commercial machines.
DST has no color information. Colors are assigned on the machine's needle bar; we include a color sheet with every download.
- Every stitch and jump stays within DST's 12.1 mm limit; longer moves are split automatically.
- Color changes are stops in the DST file. Set the needle order on the machine from the included color sheet.
- DST is the safest choice when you send a design to an embroidery shop.
Machines that read DST
- Tajima TMBR, TMEZ, TMAR
- Ricoma EM-1010, MT-1501, CHT2
- Brother PR680W, PR1055X, Janome MB-7
Every purchase also includes the other five formats, so a file you share with a friend on another brand works too.
How to make a DST file from a picture
- Upload your image
PNG, JPG or WebP. Logos, text and flat artwork stitch best. Nothing is uploaded: digitizing runs in your browser.
- Set size, colors and density
Pick your hoop (4×4, 5×7, 6×10…), the number of thread colors and the fill direction. The stitch preview updates as you go.
- Check the sew-out, then download
Play the sew-out, check stitch count and jumps, then download PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3 or XXX. First design free.

OriginalStitchedDST questions
Why does my DST file show no colors?
The DST format only stores stitches, jumps and color stops, never the thread colors. Every embroidery program shows default colors for DST. Use the color sheet in your download to set the needles.
Can I use the DST file on a home machine?
Many home machines read DST (Brother, Janome and Bernina models among them), but colors will look wrong on screen. Use PES, JEF or EXP if your machine has its own format.
How many stitches will my logo have?
The preview shows the exact count before you pay. A solid 100 mm wide logo is usually 6,000 to 15,000 stitches.
